Anatomy coverage

MUST include C7/T1 junction — Swimmer's if not visible.

Tech pearls

  • If C7/T1 not seen on lateral, MUST do Swimmer's BEFORE clearing collar.
  • Pull arms down gently to drop shoulders without rotating spine.

Image evaluation

  • All 7 cervical vertebrae + C7/T1 junction visualized
  • Smooth anterior, posterior, spinolaminar, and SP lines

Common mistakes

  • Removing collar to position
  • C7 not visualized — failing to add Swimmer's

Trauma modifications

  • NEVER move patient or remove collar before clearance.
  • Pull arms caudally for shoulder depression — do not rotate.
  • If can't see C7 — Swimmer's or CT.
