Anatomy coverage

Apices to costophrenic angles; both lateral lung margins.

Tech pearls

  • Roll shoulders forward — clears scapulae off the lungs.
  • Two-breath inspiration captures the lung apices.

Image evaluation

  • 10 posterior ribs above diaphragm
  • No rotation: symmetric SC joints
  • Scapulae off lung fields
  • Both costophrenic angles included

Common mistakes

Scapulae over lung fields

Why: Hands not rotated out / shoulders not rolled.

Fix: Palms out on hips, push elbows forward.

Rotation

Why: Asymmetric weight on the feet.

Fix: Even weight; check SC joints symmetric to spine.

Costophrenic angles clipped

Why: Centered too high or short IR.

Fix: Center CR to T7 and use 14x17 lengthwise unless hypersthenic.
