Upright or supine, true lateral.
Part position
Arm closer to tube raised over head; arm farther from tube depressed and pulled inferiorly.
Central ray
Perpendicular to T1 (or 5° caudal if shoulders cannot be staggered).
IR placement
24x30 cm.

Tech pearls

  • Stagger the shoulders — one up, one down.
  • Higher kVp needed than routine lateral.
