Supine with hyperextension (SMV); supine with head rotated 15° away (tangential).
Part position
SMV: IOML parallel. Tangential: tilt chin 15° toward elevated side.
Central ray
SMV: perpendicular midway between arches. Tangential: perpendicular to arch.
IR placement
18x24 cm.

Tech pearls

  • Reduce kVp/mAs from standard skull — arches are thin.
  • Tangential best for depressed fracture eval.
